Our 2019 Tiny Desk Contest Submission
It’s a habit of mine to watch Tiny Desk concerts weekly. It’s my favorite way to discover new artists and fall more in love with artists I already love. Every winner of the Tiny Desk contest has become one of my new favorite artists, but I most love watching as many entries of people just making music because they have to, and their vulnerability feels like magic. This year our submission feels like it transcended our original purpose of entering the contest. We are in love with the video Andy Tennille created, with the help of Brian Doub and Michael Schmid. It portrays exactly what we hoped and it speaks for itself. TuKool Tiff made this into a stunning testament of love and authentic power. Thank you, TuKool Tiff, Luke Payne, John Ray, Chaisary, Andy Tennille, Brian Doub, and Michael Schmid. You all and your voices make the world a better place.
Our Mountain Stage Performance will air May 3rd
Playing Mountain Stage was a dream come true. It was my homecoming show in West Virginia, with our families in attendance, and our greatest partners on stage with us, Luke Payne, John Ray, and Chaisaray. Larry Groce felt like a family member. Everyone who works at Mountain Stage is full of kindness, grace, and ease…we felt so at home. West Virginia will always be my home. Check with your local NPR stations to find out when the show will air. Our local station in Winston-Salem—WFDD—will premiere it Saturday, May 4th at 9pm, and then re-air it Sunday, May 5th at 9pm. "Gunmaker" is a haunting, timely track that finds Morrison imagining the internal struggle of the song's titular craftsman. The gunmaker earns a living that allows him to care for his daughter -- and yet, it also puts her and other children at risk: "Any man could do her in, right or wrong," Morrison's character reflects, and "lately, I can't look her in the face."
